Email not sending or receiving

What this solves

You can’t send or receive email. This guide covers the main causes and fixes.

Can’t send

Check: correct SMTP server (e.g. mail.yourdomain.com), port (465 or 587), and “use SSL/TLS.” Username: full email; password: correct. If “authentication failed,” credentials or port are wrong. Check SPF so receiving servers accept mail from your server. See “How to set up email (SPF/DKIM).”

Can’t receive

Check: MX records point to the correct mail server (e.g. mail.yourdomain.com or our mail host). Use an MX lookup tool. If MX is wrong, fix DNS. Ensure the mailbox exists in cPanel and isn’t over quota.

Blacklisted / spam

If mail goes to spam, set up SPF, DKIM, and optionally DMARC. See “How to fix emails going to spam.”

Tip: Test with a simple client (e.g. Thunderbird) to rule out app-specific issues.

When to contact support

If settings are correct but mail still fails, we can check server logs and reputation.
